Hi guys, Raiden here. Yeah, it's been a LONG time since I've done much here - there's just been SO many commissions for our business, all I've been doing is painting. >_>
I'm still busy, even busier than before, but not for good (as in 'happy') reasons. Should've shared this a while ago when the problem first arose, but, to be honest, I was a little afraid. Not of you guys, of course, but of what might happen to Claire. Let me explain...
Around the end of March, early April, Claire started having headaches, and occasional bouts of nausea. We really didn't think anything of it - we figured she might of just caught a bug (a flu for her is nausea, headaches, and a really mild fever, so it seemed normal), or possibly just hormones readjusting after the baby a few months earlier (though we figured that was less likely). We thought it would go away on its own.
On April 13th (YES, it was a Friday :/ ), Claire had a seizure. After rushing her to the hospital, we found out that she had a brain tumor - a Meningioma, specifically. Well, actually, she had Meningiomas
. The doctors had to do emergency surgery to remove the main tumor that had caused the seizure - it was located in the back-right side of her brain. They decided to only take out that tumor at first so that they could do more scans of her brain to see exactly
what else they had to deal with, which turned out to be a good idea as the other tumors (which were still fairly small, luckily) were all crammed around the top of her spinal cord. It ended up taking three separate surgeries through April and May to get them all out. She was in the hospital for most of those two months, leaving me to take care of the business, the baby, and
Claire, who (needless to say) wasn't very happy about the whole situation.
So that's the bad news.
The good news is that they were able to get all of the tumors out without causing any lasting harm on her spinal cord, nerves, or brain. She was finally able to come home at the end of May, and has already gone back to taking care of the baby and helping me catch up on commissions, though I've made her take it easy. She was a little shaky on her feet from being in a bed for most of two months, but she can still draw just fine and is just as quirky as ever.
But it seems luck does not shine with us currently. Claire went in for another brain scan last week, so the doctors could check up on her brain and make sure there weren't any more tumors growing. There was. The tumor is fairly small currently, once again located on her spinal cord, but it's quickly growing. She just got out of surgery a few hours ago, and it went surprisingly well, the surgeon said. We're all worried about the ferocity of these tumors, though - they've all been benign (luckily), but they seem to keep growing & coming back. I'm hoping that they stop, and soon, because don't want Claire to be permanently effected by this... Claire's strong, like Kathi Goertzen is, but art is as much a part of her life as our family. I don't want her to lose that.
So yeah, that's why nothing's been happening here. We've still been on DA moseying around some (mainly me), but neither of us have had both
the time and energy to put anything up. Coolpilot's been doing a lot (and I mean a LOT) of concept work for Imbalance, trying to keep Claire busy & our minds off things, so we might be able to post some of that at some point, but that'll be the extent of what we can do right now.
Hope you all are having a better summer than we are, and wish Claire a speedy (and permanent) recovery.
EDIT: Fixed a few grammar issues... oops.
